This individual project aimed to create a branding package for a specific country to showcase at Japan's Expo 2025. The package included postcards, poster, street banners, and merchandise. I was assigned Chile as the country to design for.

Process & Design of Brand Package

The vibrant and unique street art scene in Santiago, Chile, particularly in the suburbs, fascinated me. The use of bright colors, intricate details, and a style distinctive to Latin America felt like a genuine representation of the country's spirit. This experience influenced my creative process, encouraging me to explore vibrant colours in my designs.

Three post cards featuring food, land, and people of Chile

The initial phase of the project involved creating three postcards with the theme of food, land, and people. I went for a flat design style, drawing inspiration from some of the street art I saw. Incorporating vibrant colors posed a challenge because, during my time as a visual art student, I was not accustomed to using bright and emotional colours in my creative process. However, this choice made me realize that my grasp of colour theory was stronger than I initially thought.

The next part being the brand package, the requirement is that I have to use the visual elements and style of the postcards. Some items have certain restrictions.

The poster must be precisely 16" x 20" in size and feature the country's map exclusively. No additional details or visuals related to the event. Chile is written in Japanese because the expo is in Japan.

T-shirt as a part of the merch, the style is inspired by Uniqlo.

Street banner using the exact elements from the postcard with some more detail to enhance the visual effect.

Hat, stickers, phone case, and tote bags as merchandise

Some accessories as merchandise.

What I've Learned

I have always been fascinated by product design. Although it's a field I had not explored much before prior to this program, I really enjoy seeing my designs come to life on a mockup. This project is my first time experimenting with mockups.

The main challenge was keeping a consistent style across all designs because "consistency" can be subjective. I had discussions with the teacher to figure out how to achieve that. In general, this project was interesting. It helped me explore my design style more and gave me a taste of working with a client (the teacher) with lots of feedback and changes.
